The ETC encourages
undergraduate students to complete a 6 month occupational traineeship
at the centre under the supervision of one of our senior researchers.
Murdoch University has arrangements with a number of universities
both within Australia and Internationally. Murdoch Univ. is able
to offer advice and assistance with VISA and other travel arrangements.
you should initially make contact with the ETC Research Manager,
Dr Martin Anda, to discuss your proposed area of study, eligibility
and so forth.
In recent years
students from overseas universities have made a valuable contribution
to research and development at the ETC. The program first started
in 1995 with Soeren Scheid from Bremen University. He completed a
study on raw water pretreatment requirements for the Solarflow solar
powered
desalination unit. Since then numerous projects have been completed on wastewater
treatment, constructed wetlands, water treatment and energy related
topics by the
international research students.
Currently Alfredo
Bermudez Contreras, a student from Mexico completing his Masters
at Murdoch University in Renewable Energy, is monitoring the performance
of the roof integrated photovoltaic power supply system on the ETC
Waalitj building.
Other applications
from overseas students in India, France and Germany are currently
being processed. Julia Klein from Germany has been accepted and will
commence a project at the ETC in October on vermicomposting or institutional
organic wastes.
Thorsten Woolf
» Univ.
of Applied Science, Cologne, Germany
Thorsten, an undergraduate student from Department of Plant
Design and Process Engineering, undertook research into the Solarflow
unit at the ETC.
Thorsten also took an interest in the BioDiesel research
being carried out at the ETC to such an extent that he drove a BioDiesel
vehicle up the Gun-Barrel Highway in outback WA & NT, rounding
out his time in Australia.
Paul Pinamang Kyei
» Univ.
of Aalborg, Denmark
Paul undertook a 6 month International Occupational Traineeship
at the ETC under the supervision of Research Manager Dr Martin Anda.
Paul’s
work centred on the Biomax, an onsite aerobic wastewater treatment
system and improving the nitrogen removal capacity and
energy efficiency of the Biomax unit at the ETC
Paul is a scholarship student from Ghana, attending
Alborg University. Paul hopes to return to Perth to complete a PhD
project in the near future.
Christoph
Anders
» Univ.
of Bremen, Germany
Christoph spent the first 6 months of 2003 at the ETC researching
the 'active heating systems' in the Waalitj building at the ETC.
Christoph's
detailed report and presentation are available for download:
