Water conservation and water
auditing. From 1998 the RADG has run water auditing courses of two
days duration for industry practitioners. Four have been run in total.
Of these two have been general courses, while one has focused on the
needs of local government, the other is focused on the needs of the
power and mining industries. Beginning in 1999, the course 'Water conservation
and water auditing ' (N230) has been run as a four point undergraduate
course. This unit introduces students to the principles of water conservation,
and water auditing as an important tool in implementing water conservation
and as part of the general environmental audit. A primary purpose of
a water audit is to improve water use efficiency by identifying opportunities
for water reuse, recycling and reduction in use. The unit includes
topics in flow measurement and instrumentation, water quality requirement
for various types of water use, regulations governing environmental
use of water and management strategies for water use and reuse. Financial
support has been received from the Water and Rivers Commission.
