"don't
do anything about us, without us"
Commissioner Allison Anderson
The IDC is a group of young Western Australian environmental designers,
technologists, educators and community leaders who are trying to
make a conspicuous difference in the research and development of
healthy living environments
for Indigenous peoples.
Initially formed by Dr
Martin Anda (Remote Area Developments Group and Environmental Technology
Centre, Murdoch University), Grant Revell
(Faculty of Architecture, Landscape & Visual Arts, The University
of WA), and Fred Spring (Relspree Pty Ltd) the IDC, along with their
respective university students and colleagues and Indigenous community
hosts, has undertaken a number of living environment related projects – including
work at Jigalong, Irrungadji; Marble Bar (Goodabinya), Juwurlinji (Bow
River); Northam, Kelleberrin, Merredin, Tambellup Aboriginal Reserves;
Perth Law Courts; and Purnululu and Southern Forests.
As the above
approved catch-cry suggests, the IDC is committed to working with
and for Indigenous communities. Participatory and holistic
planning,
design and governance models form the basis of this vital work.
