National Lifestyle
Villages, innovative developers of small village style estates to
take the best of small community and resort style living, have joined
forces with the ETC to develop water management strategies to save
water, increase grey water re-use and benefit our environment.
National Lifestyle
Villages around the Perth metro area will benefit from an integrated
waste water management system to minimise wasting drinking quality
water where treated waste water could be used. Watering lawns, parklands
and garden beds with treated waste water is safe, economical and
generally good for our environment.
As well as making
use of our commercial consultancy services, NLV are also contributing
to research in water management and innovation by making direct financial
contributions to scholarships. NLV recognise that all industry and
business operators have an obligation to contribute to the advancement
of knowledge and to face the challenges of a triple bottom line;
economic, social and environmental.
John Hunt is developing
a model to assess the water management of a development, sub-division
or suburb with a view to creating a rating system. This rating system
and its associated set of guidelines will allow a water wise developer
to maximise our valuable water resources while minimising their impact
on that resource.
Beth Strang is
researching the legislative and regulatory barriers to the uptake
of grey water re-use. Some of us already use our used laundry water
to water the lawn; some people have onsite treatment systems to re-use
all water from the houses but why isn't it done more often and on
a larger scale? Beth is taking a look at why we don't use more grey
water and why government and our regulatory authorities seem to
be undecided about what rules should govern the use of grey water.
We'll have updates
on the relationship between NLV and ETC in the near future.
