Long-time
ETC Team member, Joshua Bryne, has joined the ABC's Gardening Australia
Team to present stories with a West Australian flavour.
Born
in Esperance on the south coast of Western Australia, Joshua Byrne spent
his early childhood years surrounded by some of Australia’s best
coast and bushland. He developed a keen interest in organic gardening
from an early age. Having moved to Perth to complete his education Joshua
refined his interest in environmental issues and found a niche at Murdoch
University where he was a founding member of the Environmental Technology
Centre (ETC) and Permaculture Site.

The WA Gardening Australia crew
During
his undergraduate studies Joshua created a permaculture garden in one
of Perth’s ritziest suburbs Dalkeith. Featured on Gardening Australia
the Searcey Circle Garden become a local landmark. Now Joshua helps
maintain the 2 hectare Permaculture Site at the ETC as well as teaching,
researching and conducting environmental consultancies in the areas
of permaculture, water conservation and appropriate technologies for
sustainable living.
Joshua
has worked in remote Aboriginal communities throughout Australia as
well as conducting research for the WA Water Corporation, Netafim Irrigation
and may others. Taking a break during his studies, Joshua, travelled
to Africa and the Middle East, spending time Malawi, East Africa, Egypt
and Israel to gain some international perspectives on his studies, organic
gardening, water conservation, permaculture and sustainable living.
Joshua’s
down to earth attitude coupled with his passion for gardening and especially
permaculture mark him as a challenger of the established gardening principles
and an innovator in permaculture and sustainable living.
